So you want to know how you can become more active in getting marijuana legalized and regulated for responsible adult use?
There are ways you can begin to make a difference:
Become a member of your local NORML chapter.
Many of our volunteers and supporters become members when they see first hand just how much work and expense it takes to pull off an event. Your money goes a long way towards educating the public, bringing in speakers from all over the world, permits for events, promotional materials, food and bands, and if you've ever been part of one of these events, you know all of the little things, like tape, batteries, etc... that you need last minute. Most people have no idea!
Educate Yourself on Cannabis Facts
What do you really know about cannabis? What are it's uses, how does it impact the economy, environment, and our health? What is it's history. Where does the law stand on cannabis in it's various forms? Knowing what is going on in regards to laws and statistics will make your points more valid. Credibility will take you far, as it should. You don't want to sould like a stupid stoner, do you?
Register to vote, (and actually go out and vote).
If you don't vote then you shouldn't complain, after all,
by not voting you participated in allowing cannabis prohibition to exist.
Without your vote someone else is getting their views across, and most likely
they are casting an uneducated vote swayed by false propoganda.
If you think your vote doesn't count, consider that marijuana was completely
illegal in almost every state by the 60's, and is now partially legal in
over half the states.
Write letters to your elected officials.
Let them know how you feel about marijuana and the laws that prohibit its use. Tell them how the laws have adversely affected you or your family and friends. A good point to make especially is how it makes no sense that alcohol and tobacco are legal even though they kill hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Use mass media to reach thousands!
Express yourself through letters to the editor of your local newspapers, college newspaper or even voice your opinion on call-in talk radio shows. Talk to other people around you like your friends and family about support for change in the marijuana laws.
Start your own NORML chapter.
If you live in an area without a NORML chapter, know that there are many people around you who are willing to support this cause. What they need is YOU to get them going. Click here to go directly to the national NORML website for chapter formation instructions.

As a cannabis activist, there may be times when you are confronted by law enforcement:
ALWAYS SAY NO TO POLICE SEARCHES!
Don't talk to police!
Remember, don't talk to police if approached on the street
or if they pull you over in your car. ANYTHING YOU SAY CAN AND WILL BE USED
AGAINST YOU IN COURT.
Don't trust the police!
Law Enforcement Officers can make no promises about being
easier on you or letting you go if you give yourself up to any illegal activity.
COPS ARE TRAINED LIARS, most of them will do whatever it takes to get you
busted.
Don't give yourself up
Just say no to any searches and if you are arrested
repeat over and over again "I want to see my lawyer!"
If you aren't under arrest then ask "Can I go now?"
Be respectful and make the cop's job easier by not arguing with them, running
away, touching them, or giving yourself up.
Don't give yourself up even if the cops threaten you.
JUST REMAIN SILENT.
